It Me and That's All I Can Be

Topic: Who Are You?

I am an individual who is known for many attributes. The four main traits I hold are a high school athlete, a dedicated father, a past musician, and a beloved boyfriend.

I am a high school athlete. When I lived in Florida, I went to Palm Bay high School. This school is well known for two things in the state of Florida: its law program and its football team. I was very fortunate to be a part of the Palm Bay Pirates for four years of my high school career. Although I was unable to receive a full or half paid athletic scholarship to a college or university of my choice, the football program taught me a hand full of life lessons. It taught me how to work hard at everything I do, to be strong and take what ever life throws at you, and to be confident in what ever you do. Even though I walked away from football with nothing, I walked away from football with everything. I wouldn’t trade that experience for anything in the world.

I am a dedicated father. I have a one year old daughter named Cassi. She was born on February 27, 2006 in Holmes Regional Hospital in West Melbourne, Florida. Cassi was born five pounds, five and a half ounces. She is my world and my heart. Even though she was unplanned, I wouldn’t trade her for the world. Cassi is a beautiful young girl with an enthusiasm for life and learning shows in the way she plays. She has a curiosity for everything and has energy that is endless. Cassi is already potty trained so she is a quick learner. She has an incredible personality; she is always laughing and cheerful about everything. My Daughter Cassi means everything to me and always will until I am dead and buried.

I am a past musician. From seventh grade to tenth grade, I was in the Central Middle and Palm Bay High school band. But unfortunately, I played an instrument that most people would find humorous: the Tuba. My first choice in instruments was the Saxophone but my junior high band director, Mr. Sanders, said “You look like a Tuba player.” so that is what I ended up playing. I jointed the Band because of my first love – music. I have had a connection with music since I was a young boy so joining the band was destiny. Once I reached the tenth grade, I lost interest in the band program. I didn’t get that excitement I use to get when I would blow in my horn and when I would get a new piece of music; plus I didn’t get a long with the other kids in the class. So in the tenth grade, I let go of my first love and moved on to my second love – football. Even though I walked away from my first love, the memories of my musician days are still with me.

I am a Beloved boyfriend. Besides my daughter and my mother, there is a woman who has my heart, my girlfriend for almost 2 years – Jenna Nicole Lambert. She is everything I have ever wanted in a woman; she is extremely caring, smart, beautiful, funny, strong, and great at “something dirty”. I love her and she loves me – there is no better feeling than that. I can’t see myself with anyone else but her and I refuse to do so. Jenna is who I want to spend the rest of my life with. Jenna and I have been through so much in the past year and we are still together; if she hasn’t broken up with me by now, she never will. If my love for her was an ocean, it would take two planes to get across it. Jenna Nicole Lambert will soon be Mrs. Colin R. Chevry.

If I could explain myself in one word, it would have to be successful. That is what I live by, to be successful in everything I do. I work hard at what I do and I have dedication in what I do. The sky is the limit and the world is yours for the taking so I take advantage of that; that is who I am.

Love Is Not A Crime

Topic: Guilty as Changed, But?

Roswell Gilbert, in early 1985, was charged with first degree murder and sentence to life in prison. His crime was taking the life of his 76 year old wife after she begged him to release her from suffering and embarrassment of Alzheimer’s disease. Although some might find this sequence of events wrong and shameful, I think it is done out of love. Although it could have been done a little different, Roswell Gilbert performed this act solely on respecting his wife’s wishes.

In think Gilbert was right in his action. He fallowed his wife’s wishes. My grandmother, who recently past this last year, suffered from Alzheimer’s disease. That sickness is no laughing matter! The emotional roller coaster my grandmother went through before she left to a better place was both heartbreaking and mentally exhausting to her, so I can only imagine what Gilbert’s wife was going through. It must have been hard sometimes waking up in the morning and not being able to remember your spouse. Gilbert’s wife told him to kill her so she could no longer feel the heart breaking pain and suffering anymore, so he respected his wife’s wishes.

At the same time, Gilbert should have gone about it a little different. He should have had her do it herself. In fact, she was wrong for asking him to do it. Even though she was sick, I’m sure Gilbert’s wife was well aware of consequences he was going to face for the act. Suicide would have been the best route to save any trouble on him. If she had enough sense to tell him to killer her, she had enough sense to do it herself.

Even though Gilbert meant no hatred by it, society had no other reason to think it was anything but murder. If I was the judge or jury of this case and was looking at it from someone else’s point of view, I would think the same thing. Their was no evidence of Gilbert’s wife’s wishes and what she really want, so there was no way to tell if what he was arguing was true.

Our law system is not sufficient to address such complex issue. The way the law system is built is black or white, there is no gray area; all individuals are guilty until proven innocent. This issue had a lot of gray area and the law system is unable to pick up on it. That is partly what is wrong with our society today. We don’t take the time to understand an issue; we are so quick at labeling things. We just quickly glance at something and slap a right or wrong on it. Sit down-smell the rose, understand life.

The United Countries of Earth

Topic: America as Empire?

In Why Are We At War?, Mailer comes to a conclusion that the main reason for us going to war with Iraq is to build a global empire. As ridicules as that sounds and the disagreements people may have with that conclusion, the clues for that truth is all around us in our daily lives. The most obvious clue is that we are always, as a country, trying to control or influence others to do the same as us.

For example, Christian churches going on missions to other countries to spread the word of Christ. We go to Africa or India and we help out these poor people by feeding them, clothing them, and building them houses and schools. In the middle of doing all this, we hand them a Bible to read to teach them the Christian word. Of course they take it because they will take anything as long as we keep feeding them.

Another example can be seen in our war with Iraq. This country has a government that is run by dictatorship. So as we infiltrate this country that we are so called at war with, we try to over through a government and turn it into a communist government like our own.

America’s control greed can be seen in the world broadcast of the super bowl. Football is a sport that is only played in America; the rest of the world is big on soccer. The super bowl this past year for the first time was globally broadcasted. As people in Australia we flipping through channels on their television sets, they come a cross a game of large men with lots of padding on their bodies hitting each other.

The war with Iraq is a starting block for us to turn the whole world into America; to take away all unfamiliar countries with their strange government and way of life and turn them into clones of this great country of ours. Soon it wont be the United States of America (U.S.A.) but the United Countries of Earth (U.C.E.).

Flags, Bushes, and Evil....O My!

Topic: Blog on Mailer

Let me start by saying that Norman Mailer is a genius; he deserves an award for this work of complex thoughts on our American situation. In his essay Why We Are At War, he breaks down exactly what lead up to pre 9/11 and post 9/11 and his hypothesis on the real reason of the war. Mr. Mailer brought up many points that I agreed with, like his view on our sudden patriotism, President Bush’s associating everything with evil, and America’s road for world domination.

After 9/11, a sea of American flags appeared out of no where. Everyone had flags on their cars and hanging from the roofs of their houses, American flag shirts, key chains, and underpants; individuals felt the sudden need to be patriotic for a reason that still bothers me now. All Americans thought it was a way to keep us united but, like Mailer, I thought it was “promiscuous patriotism”. Most individuals were waving flags because everyone else was waving flags. I think we need to stop acting like we are united and actually be united. Lets stop racism, inner-city wars, hatred as a whole in our, as most say, wonderful country of ours.

President George W. Bush has a repetitive habit in speeches, quotes, and public appearances of calling everything bad “evil”. So when the World Trade Center was attacked, he targeted everything “evil”, so Bush chose the first “evil” place that came to mind to go to war with. Iraq wasn’t exactly involved in 9/11 but Bush blamed them for it because it is home to an “evil” person, Saddam; and man, don’t Americans hate Saddam! In Bush’s eyes, 9/11 was an “evil” act, Saddam is an “evil” man, and all “evil” is connected; so it was only far to go to war with Iraq, an “evil” place. I think that whole direction of thought is quit elementary; my 14 year old cousin Derrick can think more logically than this Bush character we call a president. That’s what we get for putting a C student, red-neck in office.

Going to war was also a way to start our quest to rule the world. The United States has been working on world domination since before Clinton came into office. When 9/11 happened, Bush saw this has a perfect opportunity to start the takeover. Iraq would be the first stop, and then comes Iran, Syria, Pakistan, North Korea, and China. Once these countries are in U.S. command, the United States while be the main source of control. I don’t know what everyone else thinks but this sounds like a cartoon I used to watch called Pinky and the Brain. I don’t understand how this world takeover is supposed to work anyways. How does an individual, Bush, take over a world, Earth, when that individual can’t even control his or her own country, United States of America? I don’t know about anyone else but I just don’t see it happening anytime soon. To be honest, America is not strong or has enough sense to run the world.

All Because of Alligtors

Topic: The Alligator River Story

This tale is about a desperate and in love woman, Abigail, who wants to be reunited with her lover, Gregory, but a hungry Alligator filled river separates the two. When her friend, Ivan, refuses to be apart of her journey, she has to take a boat captain’s offer, named Sinbad, to have sexual intercourse with him before the journey. Once Abigail is reunited with her lover Gregory, she confesses her wrong doing. Gregory gives Abigail the boat and she is left heartbroken. Abigail tells her other friend, Slug, about what has happened. Being a compassionate friend, Slug beats Gregory Brutally while Abigail watches will laughing.

I give the number one spot for respect to Slug. The way he feels for Abigail is the way I feel for my female friend; if someone breaks the heart of one of my friends, the person that did it got it coming. Slug wasn’t doing nothing but being a good friend. He saw that his friend, Abigail, was heartbroken from a relationship; so, he took it upon himself to beat the guy senseless. The most respect goes to him.

Ivan gets the number two spot. He real wasn’t even involved in this story. When Abigail comes up to him for help, he just simple said that he doesn’t want any part of it. The only thing he did wrong is not help Abigail. Ivan is suppose to her friend. It’s not for that reason he gets such a high rating on respect, it’s just that the story is full of non respected people that he just didn’t do enough to get rated low.

Gregory is number three on the respect scale. The first thing he did wrong is not understand the situation. He just kicked Abigail out his life without understanding why she did what she did. Second, he got beaten brutally. How can someone just let someone beat them up. If it was me and I was Gregory, I would be the one doing the beating. Gregory was the middle of the story so he gets the middle respect.

Number 4 in respect would have to be Sinbad. This guy gets almost no respect. He makes Abigail have sex with him in order for her to see her man. That is grimy as hell to me. Even though Abigail shouldn’t have agreed to it, Sinbad shouldn’t have asked her to do that. The trifling immoral man gets a four in respect.

The award for least respect goes to Abigail, the number 5 spot. This woman is a two-faced, sex-driven bitch, pardon my French. She is in love with a man but has sex with another man, than the first man dumps her, she gets mad, and has another man beat the first man up. Abigail even had the nerve to laugh at the third man beating the first man up. She doesn’t make sense to me. Abigail is just like every other confused girl on this earth. She is the weakest link; Abigail get a five for loser.

Burning Rainbow Flags

Topic: Human Rights v. Majority Rule

Is homosexuality or heterosexuality wrong? I question that has been asked for many years. I have no problem with it, but many Americans see homosexuality and heterosexuality as the skid mark on the underpants of society. Because of that reason, America has, for several years now, attempted to “legally abolish in public employment discrimination based on sexual preference”. Not only do I find this decision to be wrong, I find this kind of ridiculous and ignorant on all surfaces of the issue.

An individual’s sexual preference should not effect their employment for many reasons. It shouldn’t matter what they do behind closed doors anyways. What they do or who they do isn’t anyone’s business. That factor does not affect someone’s performance in the workplace nor should it make them look different in the workplace. Like the example used in the prompt—an elementary school teacher. I young child sees a teacher as a mentor, an educator who is the key to their success in life; young children don’t see a homosexual or heterosexual. At the end of the day, a teacher is a teacher as long as you do the job to the best of your ability, there is no gay or straight.

Homosexuals and heterosexuals are no different from straight individuals. Most Americans think of gays as aliens or forbidden territory when in all actuality they just like everyone else except for their sexual preference. For example, most men think that other gay men will hit on them or, in other words, try to get in someone’s pants. I have a friend who is gay and he is the most interesting individual I have ever met. I think most Americans should get over the fact that homosexuals and heterosexuals are abnormal sex machines.

This issue, in my eyes, is all based on one problem that most Americans have—closed mindedness. People need to open their eyes and understand the other side of the issue; put the other persons shoe on your foot. Everyone should just have a personal conversation with a homosexual or heterosexual. Ask them about their ideas, beliefs, how they see the world as a whole today. Only then will most individuals understand that they are just like everyone else.

Someone Dial 9-11

Topic: Hijack!

Imagine being the head of the nation. Terrorist have just hijacked a plane and threaten to blow it up and all of its passengers if specific criminals aren’t released from custody. My moral perspective would cause me to make the decision to release the criminals out of custody to prevent any casualties that would be caused by the explosion. In other words, I don’t want anyone to die – my main concern is the innocent individuals on board. But, instead, the decision was made to disregard the threat. In the process of doing so, thousands of people are killed. These people are killed because of Terrorism.

I disagree with almost all of the United States’ beliefs on the official policy on terrorism. I understand that we were attacked and should retaliate. If someone succeeds in murdering my family, I would kill the person who did it. An eye for an eye, in other words But this isn’t the same situation. The terrorist attack was more on the lines of a big kid picking on a smaller kid of a while when on day the smaller kid fights back and beats the kid up. In the world today, the United States is like a bully. We think we are better that everyone and anyone; we think we are untouchable. The U.S. has been ‘picking’ on Iraq for the longest and they finally retaliated.

I disagree with the war the most. I don’t see the purpose of it. First we are risking millions of American lives and billions of tax dollars just to enter and take a country that is no bigger than one half the size of our own country. It does not take that many people to take control of Iraq. I can name a gang that can take over a country that size in two weeks. Second, I don’t understand what we are exactly looking for in this small country. Is it weapons of mass destruction? Is it Osama bin Laden? I am just confused and sick of all of it to be honest.

So to conclude, I can make that short: We should of let the convicts go and apologized for ‘picking’ on the poor defenseless country.
